Ellen’s Delicatessen and Catering opened in 2006 with the goal of offering a healthy, tasty alternative to the fast-food so prevalent in our culture today. Located across from the new Greenville Hospital Complex under construction on South Buncombe road in Greer, SC, the Deli has found its niche. Or, more appropriately, people have found Ellen’s! With a background in dietary, Ellen Roberson is uniquely qualified to bring this new style of dining, and service to the greater Greenville area. Before oppening her new restraunt,  Ellen worked as a chef at Furman University, and supervised the kitchen at North Greenville University. She has also operated a successful catering business in the area for years. With this experience, Ellen was well-prepared for hew new venture.

Ellen’s Deli, as her friends and customers refer to it, is unique in a number of ways. First, they cook all their own meats, and bake all breads on-site. The freshness is apparent on your first visit. Ellen has also done away with preservatives and excess sodium and the food is never fried. Most of the deli’s herbs are homegrown, and local farmers supply most of the fruits and vegetables. This attention to quality and detail results in a distinctive difference that brings customers and friends back again, and again. 

When asked about her cooking philosophy, Ellen says “I prepare a lot of the things my mom fixed when I was growing up. My basic training really started in her kitchen”. This foundation is particularly apparent when you look in the pie case. Banana pudding, fudge bottom chocolate, many cakes and many other deserts top off your dining experience. All made on-site by Ellen and her staff, of course. Folks with special dietary needs will be pleased to find Ellen’s offers a number of meals and deserts tailored to their specific requirements. 

All this is available, not only in the cozy restaurant but as a catered service. The deli offers menu suggestions for meetings, weddings or other special events and will work with customers to create a special menu for any occasion.
